Disaster Relief Grants

Disaster relief grants can be provided to eligible individuals and families whose homes and essential household contents have been damaged or destroyed by a natural disaster.

Eligibility requirements include:

  • Being a low-income earner and meet an income assets test
  • Demonstrate that the affected home is your principal place of residence
  • Not be covered by insurance
  • Demonstrate that the damage was caused by the disaster
  • Lodge the application within four months of the disaster occurring

Disaster Recovery Grants

Up to $50,000 available to Small Businesses and Not-for-profits, in eligible areas who have suffered direct damage to their premises or equipment, and intend to re-establish in the community. The grants will not be available for expenses that are covered by insurance, nor to recompense lost business income.

NSW Small Business Bushfire Support Grant

$10,000 Small Business Bushfire Support Grant is available to eligible small businesses, who meet the below criteria.

  • be a small business owner
  • hold an Australian Business Number (ABN) and have held that ABN at the time of the eligible disaster
  • have been engaged in carrying on the small business in a defined disaster area when affected by the eligible disaster
  • have suffered a decline in revenue of 40% or more in a relevant three month period (compared to a relevant three month period in the previous year) as a result of the eligible disaster in the defined disaster area.

Special Disaster Grants for primary producers

$75,000 recovery grants, concessional loans and transport subsidies are available for eligible primary producers.

Special Disaster Loans for primary producers, small business and not-for-profits

Low interest concessional loans of up to $500,000 are available to eligible primary producers, small business and not-for-profits affected by the recent bushfires. To find out if you are eligible view the link below.

Agriculture and Animal Services Functional Area

Local Land Services and NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) are on the ground providing assistance to landholders who have been impacted by the fires in NSW. They can assist with:

  • emergency fodder
  • emergency stock water
  • veterinary assistance
  • livestock euthanasia and burial
  • livestock feeding and management advice
  • care of animals in evacuation centres

Bee keepers are also eligible for assistance if affected by fire, just like other animal managers. If you require emergency assistance to care for your hives as a result of the recent fires, call the Agriculture and Animal Services Hotline.

The Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP)

The AGDRP provides one-off financial assistance to eligible Australians adversely affected by the bushfires.

$1,000 per adult and $400 per child is available for people severely affected by bushfires, in eligible areas. An additional $400 will also be provided for children, this payment will be applied automatically.

Disaster Recovery Allowance

The Disaster Recovery Allowance has been activated by the Australian Government for people affected by the NSW Bush Fires. This provides short term support payment to assist those whose income has been affected as a direct result of the bush fires.

Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements

The joint Australian, state and territory government Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) provide a range of financial assistance to the natural disaster-declared areas in each state or territory.

  • Available assistance measures include:
  • Personal hardship and distress assistance
  • Counter disaster operations
  • Restoration of essential public assets
  • Concessional interest rate loans for small businesses, primary producers and non-profit organisations
  • Freight subsidies
  • Grants to non-profit organisations.
